Paulette Cornish: Paulette is a full-time studio artist who creates contemporary, abstract art pieces. She resides on Vancouver Island in British Columbia after 35 years as a high school teacher and counsellor in Calgary. Paulette lives on Notch Hill, surrounded by her favorite coastal tree, Arbutus menziesii,Pacific Madrona for those south of the border. This sense of place is the primary focus of her work.. Her work has been exhibited and juried into both international and national quilt shows and galleries with pieces being published in a variety of media. Evolution from quilter to studio artist was influenced initially by Nancy Crow, whose workshops opened up a whole new world of art. In 2010-11 the startling on-line workshops by Kathyanne White, provided Paulette with the necessary tools to enable her to experiment on a larger format Epson printer to digitally print textured designs on a wide range of fabrics . This has developed into her next series which concentrated on the beautiful texture; colours in Madrona bark itself. She is currently working on Madrona Leaves.
